Our bags are packed, and camping gear is stowed in the car ready for departure first thing tomorrow morning.
We’ll be traveling through the small communities of eastern Washington, sampling wines and produce we’ve heard is readily available along Hwy 97.
We’ll cross into British Columbia where we will continue through the farming communities of the Okanagan Valley on our way to Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise. I’m anxious to talk to tourism pros in rural towns along the way about how they feel about the big changes in B.C. tourism marketing.
It’s happening everywhere. Governments are looking for ways to cut costs, and by messing with established, well thought of, effective marketing organizations they might just be killing the proverbial goose that laid the golden egg.
We’ll spend a couple of days in Banff National Park, then head down across the Alberta, Canada prairie to Glacier National Park.
The way home will be through Montana, Idaho and eastern Oregon, looking for hot springs and some really small towns.
I’ll be talking to business people and small town chambers about what’s working and what’s not during this recession. Things may be turning around, but it always seems to trickle down to small towns a little later, so preparing now for another summer season of hard work next year seems prudent.
So here’s where we start..follow us online!
