Many of you have read my last post and watched the included video. Regardless of my reassurances, you are probably feeling overwhelmed by the idea that besides working in your business all day, you need to spend time marketing on the Internet.
I found a great blog post that puts it into some perspective. I’m fortunate to have Sonia Simone, the author of this post, as a mentor in an online training program I’m in the midst of. She’s sensible, skilled and interesting.
It makes this whole social networking thing a lot easier for a small rural tourism business to absorb, thinking of it as an extension of what we’re already doing everyday.
Sonia is talking about creating your gathering place online. You, on the other hand, already have the gathering place, and it is the type of place that tons of visitors are looking for.
People are searching for an authentic travel experience. They are tired of cookie cutter hotels and restaurants and attractions. They are longing to be part of a real village.
You as a rural tourism service provider are offering that. You just need to hang out a new Internet shingle. Your Internet presence will be like an extension to your business where people can learn, chat, ask questions, and feel like a local as they make plans to come to your town.
Thanks for visiting. Help us expand the resources and information available here for small tourism businesses by leaving a comment.
