Is Your Rural Tourism Business Up 17% This Year?

by Joanne Steele on July 8, 2010

I heard a report on National Public Radio several days ago that travel is up in the United States by around 17%. According to the American Automobile Association, people are traveling by car in greater numbers, which should be good for rural communities.

So, the question is, are you seeing an increase in your tourism business over last year?

What do you attribute the change up or down to?

The word from travel experts is that the increase is just barely making up for the drop last year. Is this what you’re experiencing?

Please share how your area is faring. I’m always wary about value to rural tourism communities of predictions from “travel experts” who generally live and work in major metropolitan areas.

Occupancy at our RV park is definitely up … definitely more than 17%.

Thanks high Plains. Great news! Glad to hear that rural area is benefitting from the increased road travel.
